Kimberly A. Herrick has been licensed in North Carolina since August of 2002, and specializes in the areas of estate planning and taxation. She also provides representation and legal counsel in the areas of estate probate, business formation, traffic and criminal matters.
Ms. Herrick grew up in Wake County, North Carolina, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Secondary Social Studies Education. She taught at Hillside High School in Durham, North Carolina for 4 years, and also worked for UNC Physicians and Associates part-time in their coding and compliance department for over 12 years. In 2002, she earned her J.D. from North Carolina Central University in Durham, graduating cum laude and serving as Vice President of the Student Bar Association and Senior Editor of the NCCU Law Journal. While at NCCU she also received the Floyd B. McKissick Award for Leadership and Scholarship, an NCCU Board of Governors Scholarship and a Thurgood Marshall Scholarship, and received the highest grade in several classes. During her time at NCCU, she served as an academic tutor for first and second year classes, worked as a research assistant to tax professor Walter Nunnallee, interned at North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services, Inc. in Raleigh; Perry, Perry & Perry in Durham; and Maupin Taylor & Ellis in the Research Triangle Park, and devoted considerable time to volunteering at Omuteko Gwamaziima Charter School in Durham. After graduating and passing the bar in August of 2002, Ms. Herrick obtained her Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation at Georgetown University Law Center, and graduated in October of 2003 with distinction.
She worked for KPMG, LLP in Charlotte from June 2003 until January 2005 in their Private Client Advisory Services department. In April 2005, she started working with William L. Mills, III, at Mills Law, PA in Concord, North Carolina, and was able to continue her work there while returning to NCCU as a law professor for the fall semester of 2006 teaching Basic and Advanced Income Tax. She currently lectures at seminars for NBI, Inc. in the areas of taxation, estate probate and estate planning, and also teaches LSAT preparation for Kaplan in Charlotte.
